Get Started

Self-hosted home energy monitoring.

A live view of your solar, battery, grid, and house, running on your own hardware.

What it does

Live energy flow

Power moving between solar, battery, grid, and house, updated as it happens.

Only what you have

A display shows the parts of your system you add to it, and nothing else.

Daily cost

Add your tariff to see what today's energy has cost so far.

EV charging

Live power and past charge sessions from an Easee charger.

History & forecasts

Graph any reading over any period, with solar forecasts alongside.

Self-hosted

Runs on your own hardware, and your data stays there.

Light on resources

Built to run on a small home server rather than a big one.

Integrations

What metrd can read from today. It only reads, and never sends commands to your hardware.

EV Chargers

Forecasting

Inverters & Batteries

Tariffs & Pricing

More are planned, see the roadmap. For setup details, see the integrations docs.

Why metrd

Most energy apps are tied to one brand of hardware or a subscription. metrd is a small tool that brings your system together in one place and shows you where your energy is going.

It reads from your inverter, charger, and a few outside services, and doesn't send commands back. No charge schedules, no remote control.

It's built in the open, to run on hardware you probably already have.

  • SimpleSet it up once, then open it to see your energy.
  • FreeNo subscription, and no metrd account to sign up for.
  • YoursRuns on your hardware, with your data. Change it however you like.
  • CalmShows you the numbers without scores, streaks, or alerts about your usage.
  • Earlymetrd is alpha software. Expect rough edges and things that change.

Roadmap

A rough plan, not a promise. Priorities change as metrd gets used.

Available now

  • Live display of solar, battery, grid, and house
  • Easee EV chargers
  • SolaX inverters, via SolaX Cloud or your local network
  • Solcast solar forecasts
  • Tariffs, with today's cost on the display
  • Graphs of any reading, and device groups
  • Docker Compose setup

Up next

  • GivEnergy inverters and batteries
  • More inverter and battery brands
  • Octopus Energy tariffs, fetched automatically
  • EV chargers on the display
  • An estimate of the rest of the day's cost
  • Alerts, such as a device going offline

Get started

metrd runs as three containers: a database, the API, and the app.

01

Start the stack

Clone the repository and start it with Docker Compose.

git clone https://github.com/ernokieran/metrd.io.git
cd metrd.io
docker compose up -d
02

Connect your hardware

Add your inverter, EV charger, or forecasting service. The integrations docs list what each one needs.

03

Build your display

Set up a display at localhost:3000/dashboard, then open /monitor on any screen. The setup guide walks through it.

Want to help?

metrd is alpha and still changing. Help with testing, code, or ideas is welcome.
